New Exhibit: Daisy the Milking Cow By: Jonathon Hickson She’s finally here, at long last, Daisy the Milking Cow, the Bootheel Youth Museum’s newest exhibit! Daisy the Milking Cow can be found in the Farm store that looks like a big red barn in the center of the museum. With this new exhibit children will be able to learn how milk is processed. From the time the cow is milked, then on to a trip through a tube to the gallon jug, to the milk truck, and finally on to the grocery store where we buy the final product. If you haven’t already realized, the best part of Daisy the Milking Cow is that you actually get to milk her; with your own two hands. Then you are able to pump the milk to all of the locations like the jug, the truck, and then finally the store. Daisy the Milking Cow has a wood base and is made out of cloth machete, a glue mixture and paint. Daisy’s creator is none other than Patsy Reublin. Patsy came up with the idea a few months ago. When she told the museum staff about the idea, they automatically loved it. Greg Phelps, builder of many other exhibits, was just the man for the job. He began working on Daisy about 6 weeks ago and has just recently finished it. “Daisy has been on the floor for about 2 weeks now, and the kids really seem to enjoy it, especially the milking part,” Greg said. According to a small poll of the museum guests they say that Daisy may be the best exhibit yet! Greg said, “It’s a contest between the cow and the shadow room, kids can’t get enough of the shadow room”. The Bootheel Youth museum would like to thank the following people for all of their hard work on Daisy the Milking Cow: Greg Phelps, Patsy Reublin, Patti Phelps, Louise Key, Jerika Phelps, Elaina Phelps, Savanah Phelps, and Liz Provance. A special thank you goes out to Turner Dairy Farms for their Turner truck model! Everyone come and see Daisy the Milking Cow! © Copyright 2003 by bootheelyouthmuseum.org |
