Using a Telescope to view the Sun

MO

Please make a solar filter for your telescope before proceeding with the is step https://www.bootheelyouthmuseum.org/solar-eclipsePartner.php?Solar-filter-Instructions-11

As a safety precaution against accidental solar viewing Remove the spotting scope from the telescope. Install a solar filter (check our website for instructions https://www.bootheelyouthmuseum.org/solar-eclipse.php). Place telescope in a wide open area, free of foot traffic. Point telescope toward the sun, turn your back to the sun and observe the shadow made by your telescope. Move your telescope until the shadow of your  telescope creates a circular shadow on the ground. Once a circular shadow  appears look through the eye piece and fine tune the view through your telescope.
